Mario Gordon is an accomplished saxophonist, lyricist & music producer from Detroit, Michigan. The main instruments of choice are soprano, alto & tenor saxophones, as well as bass guitar. His music career started with playing the saxophone at Mackenzie High School. Within a year he was in the Stage Band as well as the Concert Band. Upon graduation Mario attended Wayne State University where he played in the Marching Band & studied Graphic Design. Since that time, while employed with the City of Detroit, he has performed with several well-known R&B/contemporary jazz bands.
Mario independently released 2 hip-hop/jazz cd's under the name G3 Rap (2002's Inner City Groove & 2005's Still Groovin') & performed with Quarter To Midnite (a contemporary jazz group formed by Mario's brother, bassist Alan Gordon) for about 13 years. Mario has shared the stage with many noted musicians such as: Alex Bugnon, Art Porter, Norman Brown, Najee, Ollie Woodson, Tim Bowman, Peabo Bryson, Roy Ayers, Miki Howard & others.
"Finding My Way" is Mario's first smooth jazz solo cd. It represents his journey from way back when to here & now. Mario creatively wrote, arranged & produced all 11 songs on Finding My Way. This CD contains a variety of musical styles: a few old school funk/soul jams, a lot of soulful sax playing & even a couple of vocal tunes to round out the set. Lovers of the smooth jazz format should find more than a few favorites here.
Mario sums up his current project, "Finding My Way is simply a snapshot of where I am in life right now. I know I still need to grow some more, but I'm better than I was before."
