Cakewalk SONAR 2016.08 Update adds New Features to the Browser, Comping, and MoreCakewalk, dedicated to powerful and thoughtfully designed software for modern musicians, announces the new SONAR 2016.08 release for SONAR Artist, Professional and Platinum versions. This month’s “Rolling Update” continues Cakewalk's commitment to improving and optimizing SONAR's core functionality, while delivering new world-class technology every month.

In the newly upgraded Plug-in Browser, users can now sort and organize plug-ins, assign plug-ins to categories, and create new categories within the Browser itself. This organizational overhaul streamlines workflow in many ways and gives users the control to define how they access their array of plug-ins. Now it’s easy to instantly sort effects and instruments by “Manufacturer,” “Category” or “Type,” while also having the ability to move plug-ins to any of the default categories. Further capabilities allow one to move or copy plug-ins to any of the default categories, or create their own custom categories all inside the Browser and without using the Plug-In Manager.

SONAR’S popular Comping feature now offers much clearer visual feedback by eliminating vertical split-point lines—instead, there’s a small triangle at the bottom of Clips where the split points occur. Crossfades have also been improved making it much easier to control the fade durations and placement. Further, users now have the choice of whether new Takes are placed at the top or bottom of stacked Takes, and both Automation Lane and Comp Lane heights can both be as short as tracks, with a maximum height of double what they were previously.

Other updates to the program include Windows language localization for the newly acclaimed SONAR Theme Editor, easier visualization of crossfades, and a new stretch cursor which appears for all stretch functions. Also added is a new function to Quick Grouping where users can insert multiple effects at the same time across selected tracks. Over 15 fixes to random issues were also addressed adding to SONAR’s stability commitment on a monthly basis.
