How...

A friend of mine running SONAR 5 has audio data scattered all over his local drive (C); & an audio drive (E) I installed for him 3 years ago (he's never seemed to be able to get the hang of mapping his correct audio path...& he's not too internet savvy, which is why I am here.)

So I tried to walk him through the easiest fix for this, which is to Consolidate Audio...but that function defaults to the creation of a backup folder on his local (C) drive. We eventually wound up using the 'Save As' function...saved the project under the same name; & transferred & re-mapped the audio files to newly created folders on the correct drive, his audio drive.

But I'm wondering...can SONAR be configured to identify the drive location for audio data when using the Consolidate Audio function? I couldn't find any way to accomplish this on my workstation (also S5); & both of us have the appropriate drives mapped under Options > Global > Audio Data. Am I missing something? Can this be changed in the initialization file?

Thanks,

mark4man

Hi Mark,

I don't think so, but I'm not absolutely sure.

Personally, I don't use the CA function any more. I simply use Per-project folders and make sure that the option to copy any imported audio files to the project folder is always on. Then all your audio is in the individual project's audio folder so there's no need to use CA any longer.

Thanks, Scott...

Yeah...& I'd just assume leaving off Per-Project Audio Folders also. If you have a secondary drive mapped for audio data; & the (open & save) dialogs always come up whereby the audio data path can be mapped anyway...why use it? I just create a new folder for each project (on the audio drive) when I create a new project (or save a new one that I started from a template.) If SONAR distributes newly recorded audio files to that drive in general (bypassing the individual project audio folders)...it's easy to just highlight them, move them into the appropriate location; & have the project look for 'em next time it's opened.

BTW - The CD's finally out...didn't take so long, ya' think? [I started working on it right around the time I ran into you for the first time (2001.)] So I'm slow, OK? [Sounds really tits, tho.]

Hi Mark,

Congrats on the CD release! Is it available via CDBaby or Amazon? If so, be sure to submit it to the DigiFreq Music program here on the site...
